Views from our Study - Christmas is coming...

Only a few more weeks left of term and things are showing no sign of slowing down. And we anticipate it will only get busier as we approach Christmas!

Here are our most recent highlights at More House!

More's Household

Last Wednesday, old girl and former Household member Madeleine Perham came to give a More’s Household speech. Madeleinge graduated from Oxford University two years ago. She spoke about her experiences with theatre and film organisations, including the National Theatre and Andy Serkis’s (Gollum from Lord of the Rings) Imaginarium Studios. She showed us the exciting email she received from the acclaimed author Philip Pullman, giving her the rights to adapt his book The Ruby in the Smoke into a play. Recently, she adapted Ruby Redfort by the Children’s Laureate Lauren Child, and is currently working on Margaret Bateson-Hill’s Masha and the Firebird in a production for SEN audiences. The girls thoroughly enjoyed meeting Madeleine and we are looking forward to her return next week, when she will be assisting us with our school play.

On that note – don’t forget to buy tickets to our whole school production of A Little Princess, taking place next Wednesday and Thursday!

Red Wednesday

We stood up for faith and freedom on #RedWednesday, when we wore red to remember all those who are persecuted for their faith. £140 was raised for this cause! Catch some of the brightest looks in the gallery below. Mr Green reports:

"On Wednesday our school community joined in solidarity with hundreds of other Catholic schools in the UK by dressing in red to mark Red Wednesday. This day of action is promoted by the charity Aid To The Church In Need and seeks to highlight the persecution of Christians and other religious groups around the world, such as the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. Our mufti was an enjoyable way of drawing attention to this injustice. Not only did it elicit generous financial charitable contributions from our girls, it also reinforced their keen sense of justice which is lived out in our diverse community every day. We pray with the Church that all those who seek to persecute others because of their faith, or lack thereof, will 'turn their spears into pruning hooks' and we give thanks for our school where all are welcome regardless of religious affiliation."

Sport Report

Firstly, huge congratulations to both Emma and Niamh who have both qualified for the World Irish Dancing Championships next year. They both came 3rd in their relevant age groups at the Southern England Championships. Each age group has over 70 dancers competing, so this is a tremendous result. Well done, girls!

On to the fixtures this week:

The U13, U14A, and U14Bs were all in action at the RBKC Netball League last night.

The U14As took to the court against Queen’s Gate earlier this week. We were down a few players due to illness, and therefore recruited Phoenix and Marie to play up in order to complete the team. The girls tried hard in the first half and implemented some of the tactics that we’d been working on in lessons. Niamh and Phoenix made some excellent interceptions which enabled us to covert goals at the attacking end, and we went in to half time leading 2-1. Unfortunately, in the second half we made a few errors and Queen’s Gate converted, which meant they came out the winners 4-3.

The U14Bs then stepped up, with the addition of Erona from Y8. Their quick passing and excellent positioning enabled them to get an early lead at half time. After a half-time team pep talk from Miss Devine, the girls went back onto court with one focus - to come home with the win. With some more wonder goals from Phoebe F and Phoenix D and some fantastic interceptions in defence by Hana S, we were able to conclude the game with an outstanding 7-0 win over St Thomas More.

The U13s faced Sion Manning and we had some fantastic passing and moving from the attacking players. Emma C and Eleanor L played together very well and were able to feed the ball into the circle to Rosie V and Francesca M, enabling them to put up and convert the goals. The defensive team of Amelie S, Charlotte S, and Katrina C, were strong and solid, denying shooting opportunities throughout the game. The girls finished with a mighty 9-0 knockout win!

Finally, we entered the Queen's Gate Cross Country Championships on Thursday 23rd November. It was a glorious day, if a little chilly! Eighteen girls from years 7-11 participated and represented the school with admirable competitive spirit. Congratulations especially to Yasmin H who came third, and received a medal and £15 Amazon voucher. Well done girls!
