RELIGIOUS STUDIES

In the life of More House School, Religious Studies plays a central and vital role. The beliefs and values studied in Religious Studies inspire and draw together every aspect of the life of a Catholic School. We are committed to classroom Religious Studies because all pupils have the right to receive an overall education which will enable them to engage with the deepest questions of life. Religious Studies is taught in a manner that seeks to produce religiously literate young people who have the knowledge, understanding and skills to think spiritually, ethically and theologically and who are aware of the demands of religious commitment in everyday life.

Key Stage 3 Syllabus

For Years 7, 8 and 9 the syllabus is based on the Religious Education Curriculum Directory of the Bishops Conference of England and Wales.

There are eighteen modules; six for each Year. The liturgical year is covered in depth over three years, for example, Advent in Year 7, the Paschal Mystery in Year 8, and Pentecost in Year 9. The sacraments are spread over three years: Year 7 Baptism, Reconciliation and Sacrament of the Sick; Year 8 the Eucharist; Year 9 Sacraments of Confirmation, Marriage & Ordination. Other faiths are taught in the context of the teaching of the Catholic Church; Judaism in Year 8 and Islam in Year 9. It is supported by The Way, the Truth and the Life series of text books – a new, intelligent and stimulating approach to Key Stage 3 RE in Catholic schools. The entire syllabus is taught in an inclusive manner which respects the religious background of all our pupils.
