The North London Independent Girls' Schools' Consortium
Agreed Code of Practice for Entry at Year 7 for September 2008

Information for Parents

More House is part of The North London independent Girls' Schools' Consortium and thus operates an admissions process which is co-ordinated with all the other members of the Consortium. Entry is through a combination of Entrance Examination, Interview and Reference from your daughter's present school. We produce a special information sheet for parents to help them navigate the complexities of the Consortium system and our Registrar or Office Staff are always happy to help with telephone enquiries.

We observe the Consortium's admissions dates but we also recognise that it is not always possible for parents to synchronise their deadlines, so we try to be as flexible as we can towards those parents who find that they are applying outside the Consortium dates.

Procedures

Applications

Please contact each school for which you wish your daughter to be considered requesting an Application Form and any other relevant information. N.B. You must complete a separate application form for all schools to which you apply whether they are in the same group or not.

The individual schools to which you have applied will then process your application and send you any necessary information. You are strongly advised to attend open days at all the schools for which you have applied and you should ring each school early in the Autumn Term for the dates and times of open days.

On your application form you will be asked to state at which school you wish your daughter to take the entrance test. She will be given equal consideration by all the schools in the group to which she has applied. Please note that she may only sit tests at ONE school in each group.

School Reference

A reference will be requested from the Head of the candidate's school prior to the entrance test.

Interviews

The Consortium schools make their own arrangements for interviews.

Results of Tests

These will be made available to the other schools to which your daughter has applied within the same group by the school at which she took the tests. Each of those schools will then consider whether or not to offer a place on the basis of the tests, interview and school reference.

Offers will be sent out to parents by all schools in the Consortium on Thursday 22nd February 2007. Some of these may be for a place on a waiting list. Information about position on the waiting list is not given. All girls on the waiting list are considered to have qualified for entry should a vacancy arise.

Acceptances must be received by the school at which you wish to confirm a place by noon on Monday 5th March 2007. If no reply has been received to an offer of a place by that date it will be assumed that you do not wish to accept and the place will be re-offered.

YOU MAY NOT GIVE WRITTEN ACCEPTANCE OF A PLACE TO MORE THAN ONE SCHOOL

Entry to Years 8-10

Although the main entry to the School is at Year 7 vacancies occur for Year 8 and we also have a small additional intake into Year 9 and Year 10.

Admission is through the School's own Entrance Papers in English and Mathematics supported by an interview with the Headmaster and a reference from the pupil's present school.

Finance

Margaret Scholarships (Year 7 Entry)

These are competitive academic scholarships which may be awarded to candidates who perform at an appropriately high level in both the Entrance Examination and also the formal Interview. They are worth up to one third of the fees.

Exhibitions

The School can award Exhibitions in recognition of outstanding achievement in Art, Drama, Music, or Physical Education. They are awarded potential linked to a very successful audition or try-out.

More Scholarships and Bursaries (Year 7 Entry)

More Scholarships are awarded by the Governors to girls of the Catholic faith who show very high academic ability, but who may otherwise be unable to attend the School. They may be supplemented by a More Bursary to produce a place which does not attract tuition fees.

If you have any queries, at any stage in the procedures, the Headmaster's PA, Anne-Marie McCarthy will be pleased to help you.
