German Trip to the BFI

On Thursday, year 9 students attended a German Film Day at the British Film Institute. The event was aimed at gifted and talented German students and discussed the themes of identity, family, and culture in the context of German cinema. There were over 200 pupils at the event and the More House girls used the new vocabulary they have been learning in class to answer questions and complete tasks in German.

In the morning session, the girls were shown short clips of German films and then gave opinions and summaries in German. In the afternoon session, we watched the film Berlin 36, which told the story of a German high-jumper, Gretel Bergman. She was discriminated against because she was Jewish and the government did everything they could to prevent her from competing, even though she was the strongest athlete.
