Year 10 Classics Trip to Ancient Schoolroom

This week our Year 10 Classics students experienced school life as it would have been in AD301 when they visited the Reading Ancient Schoolroom.   After donning tunics, ribbon headbands and authentic leather shoes, they were shown into the room which had a floor covered in hay, and poems written on the walls.

The girls took part in a number of activities ranging from reciting Homer, practising ancient maths, writing on ostricae (broken pottery) and discussing archaeology and ancient burial.

It was a fully immersive experience making us thankful for the convenience found in modern education! After lunch, the girls went on a fact-finding mission around Reading Ure Museum followed by a pot handling session.

It was a diverse day which was both educational and eye opening.
