Wonderful memories were forged on this unforgettable trip to Witherslack Equestrian Centre in the heart of the Lake District. The pupils, Ms Reid and Ms Calderwood gallantly departed from More House School on Monday morning and took the train from Euston, Northbound. Even the lovely scenery we witnessed on the train could not prepare us for how truly spectacular the scenery was in the heart of the Lake District. Rolling hills, lakes, beautiful countrified walks, green grass and open hearty local smiles greeted us. Amidst the beauty was real physical labour as the pupils rose early, caught in their ponies from the field, brushed, tacked and prepared the ponies for their lessons. Lessons in the mornings and afternoons were expertly guided by Maisie. The pupils’ horse riding prowess has advanced significantly and many pupils have discovered a new found passion. Even the intermittent rain could not dampen the spirits and the horse riding continued with fervour. Evening activities consisted of painting/drawing, evening walks by the lake, hurdles, sack-race and other fun outdoor competitions. Needless to say, by bedtime and after hot chocolate, lights went out quickly as sheer exhaustion filled the space. The pupils certainly will not forget their Northern Irish wake-up call by Ms Reid as they could hear the dulcet tones of her ‘Rise and Shine, ladies’, and a new day was had.

All in all, this was a magical trip and the pupils had such a wonderful time being one with nature. We look forward to many more adventures such as this one.

A big thank you to staff and pupils who facilitated this trip.
