Priscilla left More House in 2014 after doing A-Levels in Maths, Physics and Spanish.  When she was in her final year and considering university options she found herself leaning towards Maths or Economics when her Maths teacher suggested engineering as another option.  She joined Leeds to do a degree in Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering and graduated with a 1st class honours MEng.  Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering combines mechanical, computer, and electronic and electrical engineering.

During her summer breaks from university Priscilla gained hands on practical experience doing two engineering placements which made her incredibly employable.  The first was at Arup, who are a world class firm of designers, planners, engineers, architects, consultants and technical specialists and we also based in Leeds.  The second was with Centrica, a leading energy services and solutions provider, and this was based in Aberdeen.   When she graduated she applied to Arup for a permanent role and was delighted to gain a position as an Electrical Engineer in the infrastructure division.

During her time at Arup she has worked on projects at various processing plants including Sellafield and H100 Fife.  H100 Fife is a groundbreaking project that will evidence the role hydrogen can play in decarbonising heat. Customers who choose to opt-in to the project will have their homes supplied with hydrogen through a new distribution network in 2023, providing zero-carbon fuel for heating and cooking and Priscilla has been delighted to be part of such a groundbreaking project.

When Priscilla started in the industry she was the only woman in her team at Arup.  The engineering industry is still very male dominated but Priscilla is delighted that this is improving and she has visited many schools in the area she now works to talk to schools about engineering as a career as part of Arup’s outreach programme.

We very much hope to have her in to More House School soon to inspire a new generation of female engineers.

I will always remember my time in education as being one of the best times of my life.  More House was a happy and supportive school.
