This year Sports Day had a different feel with a shake-up to the traditional athletics events. Rather than it being an individual competition, the pupils participated in two team sports; Dodgeball and Netball, within their four house teams Walsingham, Canterbury, Iona and Santiago.  The very different sports brought out the best in the teams, with no one house obviously taking both sports competitions by a storm, and despite the traditional More House Sports day shower at lunchtime, the pupils were able to display resilience, quality and teamwork as they worked with new friends and cheered on their house.

Before the presentations, we were delighted to hear from Cammie (U6th), who spoke eloquently about her commitment as an elite athlete, rowing in competitions including the prestigious Henley Regatta. Cammie spoke about the highs and lows of competition and the discipline and intensity required to be able to juggle her training regimen of six days a week, with School, family and friends. Her speech was truly inspirational, passionate and empowering, and we were all very proud of her, and of all the students that took part in the day.

Lastly, whilst many thought the day had drawn to an end, and many made their way to the snack table for a hot chocolate and a cookie, there was one more sporting spectacle limbering up.  The Staff vs Parents netball match, which despite the scoreline was a thrilling game. The result ended in a 0-0 draw, a fair reflection to the sides, but some significant training required for any rematch from both teams.

The final results of the day were:

Netball Winners – SANTIAGO
Dodgeball Winners – CANTERBURY
Overall Winners – CANTERBURY
